I will admit, that the challenge we saw in this one was pretty good and seeing the noirs breeze right through this one was definitely expected, although I imagine that at least one of them won't make it through the next challenge. Plus, despite what sōma thinks about this challenge, I'm sure that we'll still see him & the others all coming up with something interesting & outside the box in the next one. Well that was intense and I like the outcome of how they are rooting out people. Sure some people may want to have a nice hometown feeling type of food where they can die happy but if you look deeper into the judge past, hes a captain of an army, he a dark chef, and he still has his pride. A person with keen observation would notice he not normal. He does not expect to be treated like a senile old man with smaller cuts of food, or the noodle being softer, he wants to die off with a bang!

Balalaika

Balalaika is the boss of Hotel Moscow. Her real name is Sofiya Pavlovna, but that name is not used in her presence. She was brought up by her grandfather, the high-ranking military head of the USSR. Balalaika's father has presumably either been condemned by the USSR or fled the country. Balalaika is a tall, blonde haired blue eyed woman with scars across her face, neck, breasts, and leg. Her hair is very long, going down to the base of her spine, and done up in a huge ponytail. She is usually seen wearing a wine red skirt suit with black stockings and black high heels. Her nails are long, and painted pink. She also wears rose colored lipstick. She has a mole under her left eye. At times, she wears a Russian military coat draped off her shoulders.

Before joining the mafia, Balalaika was a captain in the Soviet Army, Vozdushno-Desantnye Vojska'(translate from Russian: air assault troops) paratrooper and a veteran of the Soviet war in Afghanistan. A fine marksman and sniper, she received the nickname "Balalaika" (one of the Soviet army's slang terms for the Dragunov sniper-rifle). Balalaika can be easily identified by the burn marks which scar most of the right side of her face, neck, breasts and leg which she sustained in Afghanistan, earning her the nickname "Fry-Face". She is usually shown smoking a cigar, in contrast with the other characters who smoke cigarettes. In view of her participation in the Soviet war in Afghanistan and the missed possibility to take part in the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles, it is possible to define her age between 31 and 35 years.

In April of 1986, while on an international illegal operation outside of Soviet territory, Balalaika and her unit saved a child who was in a refugee camp. The media recorded the event that led to the “Voluntary Discharge” of Balalaika and her unit; promptly deserting the Soviets forces. Balalaika arrived in Roanupur in 1993, which lead to a large-scale conflict with the already-established Triads under Chang's leadership. Rather than destroy the city, a peace was brokered between the rival criminal organizations by Dutch. When conducting foreign operations from Thai soil, she uses the Russian cargo ship Maria Zeleska as a legal cover from the police and various law enforcement agencies. In Japan, she uses the pseudonym Vladilena N. Vasilinov to waltz audaciously through a law enforcement barricade by claiming to be covered by diplomatic immunity in the Fugiyama Gangsta Paradise story arc. She also gives her name as Jane Doe to Caxton in El Baile de la Muerte. Due to Balalaika's leadership during the hellish fighting in Afghanistan, her men look up to her as their superior and will do just about anything upon her orders. As a combat officer, she is a skilled strategist and well-rounded fighter, capable of taking care of herself despite the fact that all of her. Although she has shown herself to be rather cynical on occasion, she is also a pragmatic and professional businesswoman. She frequently employs Dutch and the Lagoon Company, apparently because they share a mutual respect. Balalaika regards herself and her men as soldiers who missed their chance to die in Afghanistan. While some of her actions can be interpreted as attempts to pursue an honorable death in combat for her men, Balalaika's status as a military figure is tempered by her role in the criminal underground. She agreed to a pact with Chang's Triads in 1993 and backed away from engaging Caxton's American soldiers in combat after Chang reminded her of their un-concluded fight. Presumably, Balalaika opted for a future battle with Chang over a present opportunity to engage the American unit, which she regards as a foil to her own disgraced Soviet unit. Balalaika is also one of the few people to earn the respect of Revy, who calls her "Sis". In turn, Balalaika also seems to hold Rock in high regard, sometimes relying on his knowledge and business skills as well as hiring him as a translator. It is very unclear what her relationship with Rock is at this point.

Eda

Edith Blackwater, more commonly known as Eda was a woman posing as a nun in the Rip-Off Church with ties to the underground since the convent is mainly a smuggling organization. Eda is a Caucasian woman who appears to be in her 30s, has blond hair, blue eyes, and wears angular pink sunglasses even with her nun's habit and is often seen either chewing gum or smoking. When she isn't in her nun's habit she wears a miniskirt and a tight tank top that shows off her well endowed body.

However when she works for the CIA her hair is tied up in a bun and a few of her bangs are on her face, she's seen wearing a formal, businesswomen suit with glasses and wears a light shade of pink lipstick as well as gold hanging earrings. Before she came to work for the Church, she claimed to be born in Alabama, but that her true home is Langley, Virginia. It must be noted that Langley, Virginia, is a metonym for the CIA as its headquarters is located there. Later on, it is revealed that Eda is indeed a CIA operative and is being hosted by the Rip-Off Church in return for monetary payments. She is stationed in Roanapur as part of her division's assignment to keep international criminal activity in southeast Asia in check.

She is first introduced in Episode 7 "Calm Down, Two Men", when Rock and Revy try to buy weapons from the Rip-Off Church and almost ends in a shootout when Revy's undiplomatic methods force her and Eda into a standoff, but Rock finishes the negotiations and the Church lets them go. She is seen again in other episodes where it is shown that Eda is friends with Revy, but they still violently confront each other as they share the same hotheaded personality. She has taken a liking to Rock during the "Second Barrage" episodes, and makes fun of Revy by playing on her suppressed romantic feelings for him by threatening to take Rock for herself and excessively flirting with him. In "Roberta's Blood Trail", when the NSA's Grey Fox team instigates an operation in Roanapur without consulting her division, she is tasked with tracking down Shane Caxton, the same foe Roberta is hunting, and providing intelligence about their mission to Mr. Chang, but warns him about his actions. She also helps Rock out with his plan to get Caxton out of Roanapur as well as helping Roberta follow Caxton to Laos; though when Rock suspects that she might not be who she says she is, she warns him to not go further for his own safety. She is last seen telephoning her division head in Langley regarding taking over Caxton's mission. Eda's preferred firearm is a Glock 17L (as seen in manga chapter 41), which she wields proficiently, despite Revy's claims that she is a "second-rate gunman".

Rock

Rokuro Okajima (more commonly known as "Rock"  is the main protagonist of the series. He is a Japanese businessman turned unwitting pirate of the Black Lagoon. Rock was born into a well-to-do but neglectful family in Tokyo. He entered college one year late and his family lowered their expectations of him, whereas his academically capable older brother landed a job with the Japanese government. Rock lived an unremarkable, demeaning existence as a white collar salaryman for Asahi Industries at the start of the series. During a business trip in the South China Sea, Rock's ship was hijacked by pirates from the Lagoon Trading Company who sought a data disk he carried; he was taken hostage by Revy and her fellow pirates, Dutch and Benny, and kept aboard their PT boat, the Black Lagoon. Instead of helping Rock or negotiating a ransom, Rock's department chief Kageyama abandoned him in an attempt to cover up the smuggling operation in which he had been involved. Kageyama sent out a group of mercenaries to kill Rock and the Lagoon Company and destroy the disk. However, Rock even though he never experienced combat helped the Lagoon Company defeat the mercenaries by using the Black Lagoon's anti-ship torpedoes to shoot down the mercenaries' attack helicopter. Rock is left invigorated by the experience of piracy. Unwilling to return to his former life in Japan, and having been told that Kageyama has already declared him legally dead, Rock decides to stay in crime-infested Thai city of Roanapur and joins the crew of the Black Lagoon.

Rock is a humble and good-natured person, despite being on the business end of guns from friends and foe alike, and often seems surprised at the barbarity of the Southeast Asian crime world. He wears a teal neck tie, short-sleeved dress shirt, slacks, and dress shoes since even though he is a pirate, he retains his business persona. He is not a fighter in any way but a pacifist who prefers to use words over weapons when interacting with the hostile people encountered on the job. Rock, from joining the Lagoon Company, has often wondered if he is experiencing Stockholm syndrome, consequentially developing a friendship with his former captors and co-workers. Within the Lagoon Company, Rock is usually responsible for account management, diplomacy, negotiation, translation, interpretation, and running occasional errands. Having worked in the resource department of Asahi Industries, Rock is skilled in geology and chemistry. He is also a skilled linguist due to frequent traveling from his previous job, able to speak in Japanese (his native language), English, Spanish, Romanian and Russian. He also has a surprisingly high tolerance for alcohol, owing to the heavily drinking lifestyle of a ladder climbing salaryman. Rock's earnest personality has earned him the interest and respect of several characters in Roanapur, including Balalaika, Mr. Chang, Rowan "Jackpot" Pigeon, Yolanda, Eda (who develops a crush on him), and the young Garcia Lovelace, whom he trusts to the greatest degree. In many ways, Rock is the heart of the Lagoon Company, serving as a balance for his more jaded teammates and as a bright spot in the world of darkness that is Roanapur. He retains a strong sense of right and wrong, trying to hold on to and share his beliefs with others in Roanapur. He is often shocked and horrified by how people suffer from the injustices of the criminal underworld despite his best efforts, wearing him down as the series progresses. Although physically weak and unarmed, Rock has shown tremendous courage to stand up for himself, others, and for what he believes is right as seen when he clashes with other characters over their immoral actions, especially Revy. He is one of the "luckiest" characters in the series as he managed to survive every single thing he experienced from being taken hostage to being shot at. Thus far, he has survived the wrath of Revy, Balalaika, Roberta, and Sawyer, all without using a weapon other than his wit. Though he is a pirate with morals, he is neither good nor evil as described by Yukio, but rather in the twilight, unable to chose between a life of crime or normality.

Later in the series, Rock begins to enjoy his life as a pirate, becoming even more comfortable with corruption, and it is shown that a darker side of his personality is beginning to emerge. In "Roberta's Blood Trail", he is personally appointed by Chang to help Garcia Lovelace and Fabiola Iglesias track down Roberta before she finds the American Special Forces unit that killed Garcia's father, before she and the unit kill each other and endanger Roanapur to destruction at the hands of the United States. Rock knows that Chang does not care if Garcia or Roberta is killed and only wants to keep Roanapur out of the eyes of the world for its drug trafficking. Rock manages to turn Chang's plan around by demonstrating exceptional deductive reasoning skills, figuring out every factions' motives and playing on them. He manages to give the Americans an escape route out of Roanapur, towards their mission area in Laos, as well as having Roberta follow them and have Garcia snap Roberta out of her psychotic rampage. However, doing all that requires him to use the same callous and manipulative thinking as Chang, and he even seems to find the same sense of power over others psychologically rewarding. However, this apparent change in Rock alienates and disturbs the other characters, particularly Revy and Dutch, who do not understand Rock's motives and think he is simply doing it to extract a large reward from Garcia, causing them to fear that Rock is becoming sadistic, cunning, and ruthless due to being corrupted by Roanapur. However, he does it entirely because he wanted to save someone, and manages to achieve Chang's goal of keeping the US out as well as saving Fabiola, Garcia and Roberta. Fabiola, enraged by Rock's high risk strategy which involved manipulating Garcia into a game of "Cambodian Roulette" with Roberta and gambling with people's lives, shoots him with a blank and states that she hopes never to see him again. Months later, things have not changed in Roanapur and Rock begins to think he has not made a difference at all. Revy later tells him that it will hurt him if he continues to look at Roanapur with life in his eyes, to which Rock responds that he came close to the darkness but is not ready for it yet. Dutch has stated earlier that he believes Rock should never wield a gun because if his bullets were like his words, they would ricochet back to them.  Rock has no experience with (or interest in) any sort of combat weaponry. His main "weapon" are words and arguments. But it is safe to say that he has a fair amount of physical strength as he was able to overpower and push away Revy when she punched him after they had a intense argument. He also seems to possess at least an above average reaction time as he is constantly able to avoid being hurt by crossfire and is able to get out of tricky situations efficiently. At one point he was even able to redirect a gun being fired at him from almost point-blank range so that he did not take any serious damage from the bullet. Even though he has some potential, he consistently refuses to actively engage in combat with anyone, regardless of the situation. Because of his inexperience with weaponry and his pacifistic nature he is clearly one of the weaker members of Black Lagoon. However, he makes up for it with his intellect, his knowledge and managing skills which constantly proves Rock to be a very valuable asset to the group.

Revy

Revy, or Rebecca Lee, sometimes referred by her first name, and commonly referred to as "Two Hands", due to her skill with dual-wielding, is the main female protagonist of the series. She is the main gunfighter of the Lagoon Company. Revy was born in New York City. Few details are known about Revy's past as what is gathered is from brief flashbacks from both the manga and the show. Revy was born as Rebecca Lee, a Chinese-American, in the poverty-stricken Chinatown district of New York City and raised by an abusive, alcoholic father. One day, after fleeing from one of her father's rampages, she was arrested, beaten, and raped by a corrupt police officer. Upon being returned home following this ordeal, Revy shot and killed her father after he callously asked her for another drink. There were apparently similar incidents between Revy and the police, particularly at the 27th Precinct. Eventually the assaults resulted in Revy losing her faith in God, leading her to believe that the police abused her because to them she was "just another little ghetto rat, with no power and no God." Revy has alluded to doing time in prison, but it is unknown how she ended up in Roanapur.

Revy is a Chinese-American woman of approximately moderate height in her early to mid-twenties. She has amber-brown eyes, a slightly tan complexion, and typically keeps her plum-colored hair in a loose ponytail, with rather large bangs falling onto her forehead. In spite of her slender build, Revy keeps up her physique, sporting a slightly muscular build, which she doesn't conceal in the least. On her right upper arm, Revy has a tribal tattoo, reaching all the way up to her neck. Her wardrobe typically consists of a pair of Vietnam War-era US military jungle boots without socks, very short cut-off jeans, (turned into Denim Shorts) and a black crop top, leaving her belly exposed. She never bothers buttoning up her pants, and instead uses a US Army webbing belt to keep them up. Revy also sports a pair of brown leather cross-draw shoulder holsters to store her twin Berettas in when she isn't using them. She also typically wears a pair of fingerless black gloves. For colder climates, such as winter in Tokyo, she resorts to something a little warmer, including a warm hat, a lined brown coat, full gloves, a horizontally striped miniskirt, leggings, and brown boots. Revy is very competitive, sarcastic, battle hardened, battle hungry, loud, psychotically humored, rude, misanthropic, easily-bored, and extremely ill-tempered. Unlike Rock, she is undiplomatic, believing in the use of brute force and coercion to get her way. Surprisingly, she's revealed to be highly ticklish by Sawyer. Of all the characters in the series, Revy uses the most foul language and is also a heavy smoker and drinker. Revy is a merciless and sadistic killer, without a conscience, who will be more than ready to kill anyone at the slightest provocation, even unarmed civilians (as seen in episode 6), and she kills in cold-blood as seen in OVA # 3, when she murders a wounded FARC soldier after promising him to take him to a hospital in exchange for finding Roberta's location. She takes maniacal glee in killing anyone she fights or just for fun. She also has very little remorse for her enemies and many times have often stepped on male enemies' crotches for fun to show them how weak they are. However, she looks at it as doing them a favor as she believes any man would love a sexy woman such as her to "abuse" them. Whilst appearing to be driven by general bloodlust, it is shown throughout the series that Revy subconsciously uses violence as a dysfunctional coping mechanism and outlet for her deeply repressed emotional and psychological issues.

An example of this is, when becoming uneasy at accepting both Rock and Benny into the Lagoon company, Revy vents her trust issues by becoming particularly unpredictable during missions and getting what Dutch nicknames "Whitman Fever", going on indiscriminate shooting rampages and executing hostiles and innocent bystanders alike. The inhabitants of Roanapur tend to take Revy at face value, as a sadistic, incredibly destructive, volatile, gun-crazed psychopath, and this is how Revy initially thinks of herself, ignoring the psychological trauma and emotional turmoil that fuels her behavior, possibly investing herself in this surface image to prevent others from discovering her emotional scars, keeping them hidden even from herself. It is only when Rock arrives and begins to confront her over her actions that she begins to develop some reluctant introspection, and seriously think about who she has become and who she really is. One of the ways Revy's subconscious pain and emotional scars manifest themselves is her aversion to the empathy of others or others trying to relate to her. People presuming to understand what she has been through or how it has affected her is a huge beserk button for Revy, causing her to react in a violent rage, suggesting the depth of the bitterness and grief her early life has bred in her. She has a changing but volatile attitude towards Rock, the newest and most outspokenly humane crew member of the Lagoon Company. Although she respects him later in the series, she is mostly hostile towards Rock, as she tried to intentionally kill him on at least two occasions and threatened him on countless others. However, she does have a tendency to save Rock from critical situations, and later on she admits to considering him as family. Due to an impoverished upbringing which involved verbal, physical and sexual abuse from those who had power over her (such as her father or the police), Revy has developed an obsession towards power, over both herself and others, which causes her to appear fiercely independent and violently assertive, often using verbal or physical violence as a response to anyone who crosses her or to assert her dominance. However, while Revy initially appears to be tough, savage and strong-minded, her exterior actually covers up a profound lack of inner-strength and fear of the powerlessness she felt as a child. Her independence is actually more of a reactive attachment disorder, alienating others as much as possible to prevent the exposure of her own weakness and vulnerability. Revy believes the chief source of power in life is money, the "one thing everyone respects and agrees on", and consequentially has developed an obsession with maximizing the profits from each job as much as possible, such as ransoming others and looting corpses, when she feels that the Lagoon is not paid enough. Later on in the series it is suggested that, despite her insistence otherwise, deep down Revy actually hates Roanapur, her lifestyle and the person she has become, and that she wants to change but does not know how. In Tokyo, Revy opens up to Rock, saying that she has lived "on dirty air" her whole life and, though she temporarily forgot it, she would be incapable of living in "a good place" like the one Rock came from. In "Roberta's Blood Trail", after Revy states that Fabiola Iglesias sees the world as a garden of roses, Fabiola retorts that Revy is actually the one who sees the world as a garden of roses, one that she herself was expelled from. This feeling that she was unreasonably denied a happy life causes Revy to adamantly view the world as bleak and desolate, to the exclusion of all contradictory evidence.

Yami Sukehiro

Yami Sukehiro is the captain of Clover Kingdom's Black Bull squad of the Magic Knights. Yami is a tall man with a muscular build. He has black eyes and black hair of medium length that is messily combed backward. Additionally, he also sports a stubble mustache and beard. Yami's attire is very simple and consists only of a white A-shirt and black trousers. The trousers have an extra layer of tan leather that covers his outer thighs and down to his knees. The trousers are only supported by a belt around his waist. Yami wears another pair of belts, one of which he uses to carry his grimoire. Lastly, he wears black high boots that cover most of his calves. As the captain of the Black Bull squad, Yami wears a black banner with the squad's insignia on it. He wears it over his right shoulder and it is attached by two strings to his left shoulder. The banner also has tattered edges, seeming to have been ripped off from a bigger banner. For the Star Awards Festival, Yami wears a simple robe over a fundoshi, and a twisted hachimaki tied in the front. He also carries an uchiwa. The fan and the back of the robe bear the kanji ("festival"), and the left lining of his robe has ("rampaging bull").

Yami is normally a very quiet person that only speaks a few words. However, he is also a hot head, who could be easily enraged by something as small as being bumped by another person. Yami also has a penchant for intimidation whether he uses threatening words or physically hurts his target. He also tends to immediately go straight for a more physical solution to any problems or confrontations, such as when he destroys a part of the squad's headquarters to calm his subordinates. Furthermore, he also prefers instilling tough loves to his subordinates by giving them dangerous missions. He believes that it is the best way for them to overcome their limits and grow stronger. Yami also does not discriminate people according to their social status or circumstances where he is willing to accept Luck Voltia, Noelle Silva, and Asta to join his ranks, even though he is aware of each of their problems. He was born in the Land of the Rising Sun to a pair of fisherman. As a young man, he goes fishing, shipwrecks, and washes ashore in a strange country. There he is met with troubles because of culture shock and racial discrepancies. When Yami receives his grimoire and releases his Dark Magic, others hate and fear him, except for Captain Julius Nova Chrono, who is fascinated and invites the boy to join the Magic Knights. Years later, Yami invades the Witches' Forest, fights the Witch Queen, and smashes into Vanessa Enoteca's prison, freeing her. The day after his nineteenth birthday, Yami is enjoying noodle soup when the Thorn Magic curse on House Roselei causes the soup to spill on him. Cutting through the thorns, Yami confronts and chastises Charlotte Roselei for relying only on herself. At that point the curse is broken and dissolves because Charlotte falls in love with Yami. After beating up those who trouble him, he becomes the boss of Black Bull, around the same time as William Vangeance's becoming captain of Golden Dawn squad. During conflicts between the Clover Kingdom and the Diamond Kingdom, Yami fights and injures Lotus Whomalt, scaring and scarring the Diamond Kingdom mage.

Before the Magic Knights Entrance Exam, Asta runs into Yami and other members of the Black Bull squad. Yami threatens to kill the boy but is stopped by the beginning of the exam. During the exam, Asta's athletic ability and determination impress and weird out the Black Bull's captain. When none of the other captains recruit Asta, Yami releases his Magic Power and tries to intimidate the boy. However, Asta remains determined, and amused by the boy's response, the captain recruits him. Yami also recruits Noelle Silva. Later, Asta returns from the bathroom, and Yami threatens Asta again for making him wait and then throws the boy through Finral Roulacase's portal to the Black Bulls' base. There, Yami welcomes Asta to the squad. As members are casing a ruckus, Yami yells at them to cut it out, slamming his fist against the wall. They stop and greet him on his return. Yami then introduces Asta to the squad, while also telling Asta that some of the squad members are absent. After Asta introduces himself, Yami watches with the rest of the squad as Asta takes on Magna Swing's Black Bull Initiation Ceremony. During the ceremony, Yami notices that Asta's Demon-Dweller Sword can cut and reflect mana. After the ceremony Yami watches as Asta receives his robe. Later that night, Yami notices that Noelle's magic has started to rampage. Upon reaching Noelle's location, Yami comments about how they will need Asta to cut the mana since everyone else could hurt her. As Asta is hit by the rampaging Noelle, Yami catches Asta and then throws him while telling him to cut through the mana. After Asta manages to save Noelle, Yami compliments the kids for doing a good job. The next day, Yami gives Asta and Noelle their first mission: to accompany Magna on a boar hunt in Sosshi. Yami explains that the mission comes from a lost bet, and when Asta and Noelle complain, Yami forces them to take it by threatening to kill them. After Asta, Noelle, and Magna return from their mission, Yami compliments them for doing a good job and reveals that they have obtained a star. After Yami reveals that the squad has negative thirty stars, Yami gives Asta and Noelle their monthly wages. Later Yami sends Asta on a mission from the Magic Emperor to explore a dungeon, with Noelle and Luck Voltia. After the three left for the dungeon, Yami talks with Vanessa about sending Asta and Noelle to the dungeon and the reason he sent Luck with them. After a while Yami remembers that the Golden Dawn sent a group to the dungeon too, and wonders if they will get along. A week later, Yami notices that Asta is up and tells him that he did a good job with the dungeon even through he was in tatters. Yami also tells Asta that he is to head over to the Magic Knights headquarters and report what happened in the dungeon. As Luck gets excited to head to the headquarters, Yami informs him that he will be going on a mission with Magna instead. Charmy Pappitson offers to go in Luck's place, but Yami says that she is not going since she will just eat while there.

Noelle Silva

Noelle Silva is a member of the Black Bull squad and is inducted to the squad around the same time as Asta. She is also the second daughter of the Clover Kingdom's ruling family, House Silva. Noelle is a 15-year-old girl with a slender build and pink eyes. Her silver-colored hair is in pigtails, bangs hanging over her forehead. Additionally, she wears a pair of purple stud earrings with a cross flory fitchy shape and a silver bracelet on her left wrist.

She wears a sleeveless, backless, short purple dress covered by a silver-colored blazer. The blazer has a backless design with sleeves attached at the back and extends slightly beyond her elbows with gold-colored cuff. The blazer also has a pair of House Silva pins attached to it around her collarbones area. Additionally, the blazer has frilly edges and a rounded tailcoat that extends down to her knees. Furthermore, the blazer extends up to her neck where it has frilly edges and is held together by a gold locket. She wears a brown leather belt that supports her pouch, which has a similar color and gold ornaments at its corners, where she puts her grimoire. She also wears a pair of silver-colored leg warmers with a gold-colored cuffs at both ends and a pair of sandals. As a member of the Black Bull squad, Noelle wears her black squad robe, which is short with gold trimming, looks like a mantle with a hood. It has a gold-colored button to hold it together at the right-hand side. The robe also displays her squad's insignia on the left-hand side. As a child, she sports a braided pigtail hairstyle on the sides of her head. Her attire also has a heavy resemblance to her current attire. Having been born in the royal family, Noelle is arrogant and vain, which can be seen when she denies Asta's act of friendship while proclaiming that she has not given him permission to talk to her.

This also leads her to have difficulty on admitting any mistakes, as she tries to find excuses or blame somebody else. Coming out her difficult of admitting her mistakes, she can also be seen to be very reserved on expressing her delight over her achievements where she would rather suppress those feeling and shows her usual stern expression. She has a supposedly high sense of taste for things when she says that Magna Swing's broom is lame. However, she also has developed a slight inferiority complex, having been rejected by her own family when they realized her lack of control over her Magic Power. This leads to her trying to prove herself to them insofar she overexerts herself during training. Additionally, she is skeptical of the people around her since she expects them to react the same way that her family did. Noelle seems to have developed feelings for Asta, but is constanly denying it to herself. Immense Magic Power: Noelle has been shown to possess an above average Magic Power that is large enough to create a giant sphere of water and waterspout. She is unable to control it, which is shown from her attacks' lack of accuracy, but she has begun learning better control. During her battle with Vetto, she was able to unlock the true reserves of her magic, the release of which made the entire Water Temple tremor. Use of a single spell was able to overpower someone as strong as Vetto and almost defeat him.  Grimoire: Noelle wields a three-leaf clover grimoire that she uses to amplify her water-based magics. It has a cream-colored covers with intricate borders and a three-leaf clover insignia at the center of the front cover. Wand: Noelle wields a wand that she uses to help her control her magical power. It is in a shape of a dark-colored rod with a round tip. The wand's body also has a twisted design at the middle and gold ornaments at the top and the base of the handle. Additionally, it also has a pink crystal sphere attached at the bottom. Water Magic: Noelle uses this form of magic to generate and manipulate water. She primarily uses this magic to shoot waterballs toward her opponents. Creation Magic: Noelle uses this form of magic to manifest any entities that she desires. She uses this magic with her water magic to create a water-based entity.

Asta

Asta is an orphan left under the care of a church in the village of Hage. He is the wielder of the five-leaf clover Grimoire and a member of Clover Kingdom's Black Bull squad. Asta is a young man of short stature with a muscular build. He has green eyes and messy ash blond hair with a single strand protruding upwards from the center of his head. He keeps his hair together with a black headband, which has the gold-colored Black Bull insignia and a red-colored four-sided star with three stitches on it. Asta's common outfit consists of a plain-white tunic with a V-shaped collar underneath a dark blue jacket whose sleeves extend only up to his elbows. He sports a pair of matching shorts which has a stitch marks on the left side. His pants also extends just below his knees. His shoes is made out of two different cloths, the parts covering his ankles, the soles the same color as his jacket and pants. The parts covering his toes are white, a vertical stitch mark going from the bridge to his toes.

When he's sending his anti-magic in his body, the right side of body becomes black and he gains a partial demon transformation. After receiving his grimoire, Asta wears a pouch strapped to a brown leather belt. Additionally, as a member of Black Bull, he wears his squad's signature robe, which is black and short with gold trimming and covers the upper half of his torso. It also has a hood and a gold-colored button located at the right-hand side to hold it together, while the left-hand side displays the squad's insignia.   Asta generally is cheerful and hyperactive. He tends to shout to express his thoughts and expresses his goals, regardless of other people's opinions, as seen when he expressed his goal on becoming a Magic Emperor during the Magic Knights entrance exam, where he tells other people who disagree with him to be quiet. His strong tenacity interests Yami Sukehiro enough to recruit him into his ranks. His strong determination also leads him to have a strong will to never give up and keep standing during a harsh battle, as acknowledged by Magna Swing. Because of his upbringing at the Forsaken region, Asta frequently receives harsh opinions and insults from almost everyone he meets. This makes Asta have a slightly sarcastic nature as he tries to defend himself. But, having received harsh opinions from others, Asta has developed an immunity to them as he could easily brush them off without getting overly annoyed. However, Asta is still annoyed when others deeply insult his comrades; he will not hesitate to confront them as he tries to defend his friends.

Asta also has a very strong sense of justice, which is shown during his fight against Heath Grice, as he believes that everyone deserves to be protected. It is also not limited to only his comrades but his enemies as well, as noted when he asks his fellow squadmates to take the unconscious Mars along with them while the dungeon is collapsing. He argues that their mission is only to explore a dungeon as they are not ordered to kill any enemies. Therefore, Asta seems to see the positive side of everyone and never takes an insult too seriously, as seen when he still befriends both Yuno and Noelle Silva even after both given him harsh opinions. Grimoire: Asta wields a five-leaf clover grimoire, which he receives during his fight with Lebuty. The grimoire is tattered and covered in dirt, a black five-leaf clover insignia at the center of its front cover. This clover symbol is largely unseen due to the dirt covering it, making most (including Asta) assume that the grimoire possesses unusual magic but is otherwise ordinary. Asta is able to summon a sword from it, which he uses for his anti magic. His grimoire appears to be very unique, as Licht is rather annoyed that someone like Asta possesses it. Licht also claims that the grimoire actually does not belong to Asta, but to someone else. Demon-Slayer Sword: Asta's original sword can cut spells with its edges and deflect them with the flat of the blade. Demon-Dweller Sword: Asta's second sword can also cut spells with its edges and can borrow the magic from his allies, thereby increasing the force and range of his attacks. Only Asta can wield this sword because he possesses no mana, as other mages would not be able to use any magic while in contact with the sword and would have their mana reserves depleted. Expert Swordsman: Asta displays the ability to wield a sword, although still only at a level in which he swings it only in his opponent's direction and with the addition of his second sword's different shape and abilities, his tactical usage of his swords has increased. After having been trained by Fanzell Kruger, Asta's swordsmanship has increased. Enhanced Strength: Asta possesses an above-average physical strength, able to do a thousand single-handed handstand push-ups, to swing his sword single-handedly, and to punch holes in rock walls with no injury to himself. Asta can swing his swords with inhuman force, able to damage powerful magic-wielding opponents. Enhanced Speed: Asta is capable of moving in an above-average speed, which causes William Vangeance to think that he has used magic to aid himself. Enhanced Durability: Asta possesses a high durability, as seen when he is able to keep standing up, despite receiving numerous attacks from Heath. He is even able to emerge from Licht's attempted cave-in relatively unharmed alongside Yami. Enhanced Instinct: Asta possesses a heightened level of instinct, as demonstrated when he can unconsciously moves his body in the best way to defend himself. Ki: A principle originating from Yami's homeland, this allows Asta to use a sixth sense and to perceive and react to unseen attacks and persons.

Ray

Ray is one of the main protagonists of The Promised Neverland. He lives inside the Grace Field House but unlike the other children, he is not an orphan. Ray has dark, somewhat messy hair that slightly cover's his left eye, he wears the standard white uniform. He has dark eyes and a slender appearance wearing usually a tired like look. Ray is very logical and smart and is usually shown to read books by himself. He does not seem to be very attached to other children in the orphanage as he is seen to be willing to leave them behind to increase the chances of the trio to escape.

According to data obtained by Sister Krone, his weakness is that he gives up easily. Ray is extremely patient and cunning. He can remember everything since he's been born, so he's known about the demons and had been playing a double agent with mama since age 6. Although Ray is extremely book smart he says that he never liked studying. The reason he did was to become top of the line food and devise a plan to escape with Norman and Emma. Ray is shown to have been in the orphanage since a young age together with Norman and Emma. He learned about the demons from Emma and Norman and believes them immediately, because as he puts it "Norman would not tell such a stupid lie". The trio works together to find a way to escape from the orphanage.

Norman begins to suspect Ray while working together with him to find a way out of the Grace Field House. It is revealed that Ray is indeed Mama's spy, but is, in fact, working as a double-agent and became her spy as part of his plan to one day escape with the others, thus making him a double-agent who has been plotting against Mama all along.  Ray is an extremely intelligent and cunning strategist. He is a highly studious boy. Ray also gain knowledge of the outside world from the books that he reads hence act as a trump card for the group during and after their escape from the Grace Field House. Ray is also extremely perceptive, as it is revealed that he realized years ago that the "orphanage" is, in fact, a farm, with the children as livestock, without ever having to actually see the reality with his own eyes (like Emma and Norman) in order to realize this fact. Ray, unlike the other orphans, didn't experience childhood amnesia. This contributed greatly to his discovery about the truth of the orphanage.

Emma

Emma is the main protagonist of The Promised Neverland. Like all the other children in the Grace Field House, she is an "orphan". Emma was born in 2034, being sent to Plant 3 a year later, growing up along with several other children, making friends with Norman and Ray, and being looked after by Mama Izabella. On January 1, 2039, 4 years later, Norman eventually became ill and Mama ordered no one to stay with him so he would not get sick, but Emma disobeyed this rule several times, trying to talk to Norman, but being stopped by Mama until she finally Found a way for them to talk: over a cordless phone.

Sometime in the same year, she, Norman and Ray went to the gate and asked them what they would do when they went outside, she says she would like to ride a giraffe. However, they do not enter the gate.  Emma is a young girl with short, messy orange hair with one lock sticking up along with green eyes. Like all the other children at the orphanage, she wears the standard uniform. She wears a shirt and skirt like the other girls and has brown shoes. She acts as an older sister to the other children and loves her family very much. Emma is sweet, heroic, caring, has a big heart and is a little naive, causing her to readily put herself at risk to ensure the safety of the whole group before anything else. Out of the main trio (along with Norman and Ray), she is the most vocal and unwilling to budge on this part of the plan even as their power struggle with Mama continues. Emma has great physical abilities and great reflexes, making her always the last one to be caught in the catch-and-shoot games.

Emma is the child with more breath and physical capacity of the house, being superior even of Norman, that can only catch them because of her strategies. Emma is a very clever girl, being along with Ray and Norman the one who makes perfect marks in the tests, this makes her the strategist: calculating and analytical. It is said that Emma has an incredible ability to learn, which allowed her to always be among the top three children. Thanks to this, she is also able to memorize things perfectly, as she said it would be easy to memorize 10 types of team formation. She proved to know and understand Morse code. She has a great ability to manipulate her expressions and feelings and may fool Mama Izabella who even checked her heartbeat.     According to Kaiu Shirai, since she started writing The Promised Neverland, the protagonist was a girl. Emma is being prepared to become a mama by Izabella, having all the requirements: perfect notes and the recommendation of her mother.

Norman

Norman is one of the main protagonists of The Promised Neverland. Like all the other children, he is an orphan. Norman looks surprised when he was shipped. chapter 30 Izabelle said Norman died. chapter 31 Norman has short pale hair with blue faded eyes, he wears the standard orphanage uniform. Norman is a calm, optimistic, polite, friendly, and intellectual boy. One of his trademark assets was his relaxed expression and smiling with his enemies, as he did in situations of conflict with Sister Krone and Mama Izabella.

Norman shows no grudge against anyone, as he forgave Don almost instantly after he physically harmed him. He obeyed the orders Mama Isabella gave and constantly helped her in the kitchen while unconditionally continues to love and respect her. He also trusts and believes in all the children of the orphanage, As being one of the eldest brothers for his siblings, he constantly showed his affection by means of playing and spending time with them. Norman is willing to do anything for those he loves. Rather than choosing the opportunity to live, he chose to sacrifice himself so that Emma, Ray, Don, and Gilda could escape with all the children on the farm. Thus, putting his life before their will to survive with them. Norman is one of the most intelligent child in the orphanage, having a perfect grade in Litany of Intelligence Tests. He likes to apply what he learns to his day to day activities, even in a simple game of tag.

With this at hand, he is known to be strategic, analytic, rational, possesses logical deductive skills, and even apathetic, to the point that he saw no problem in killing Sister Krone and Izabella so they can escape. Unlike Ray, even though it's almost impossible to get away with all the kids, Norman does not give up on finding a way to get away with all the kids, or even have to die for it to happen.  Being one of the top ranked orphan (in other words: premium quality) of the orphanage, Norman is an intelligent and logical strategist. Norman was one of the few to ace in the orphanage's tests and was the only person to decipher out Ray being Izabella's spy. He can easily plan his actions in advance and he anticipates on other's actions. Norman's dominant hand is left.
